This is good fun and got me in the mood for the movie. Anyone that can make a story about a toy monkey genuinely feel dark and intense deserves props, but it’s so short that it lacks the depth to make things a bit more interesting.

You can read this in one sitting and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone planning to watch the film when it comes out in a few weeks

There was other stories in skeleton crew i enjoyed more

Mid ahh story. The ending was not it

Had to do the original before I watched the movie! Yet another 3 from me to King haha

This narrator did a great job of making it as scary as possible! -> Stephen King’s "The Monkey" | A Chilling Dramatic Reading of the Original Story: https://youtu.be/E6SpqbY6JV8

Having higher hopes for Oz's movie adaptation. It's the only reason I listened to this short story and it has to be better

“She began to cry then. He could have comforted her (maybe), but there seemed to be no comfort in him. There was too much terror. It would be better when the monkey was gone again, gone for good.”

I love the suspense atmosphere King can create… I was thinking: burry this shit, toss fire to the property and move countries in the first 10 pages, haha.

He really is a master of his craft.

i once saw a tweet saying that stephen king is obsessed with putting the n word in each one of his books. i picked this one up for a dollar. there is NINETY SOMETHING pages in this SHORT story, yet he still managed to slip it through?! why
