Richelle Mead, why do you do this to me? I just want the Alchemist and the Moroi to be together! It's not like one would be sent to Re-Education and the other would be shunned from society! Oh. Wait.
Overall it was absolutely fantastic. I love the humor that Mead incorporates into her books, these few lines were my favorite...
"You used nunchucks on a moose?"
Wolfe got a haunted look in his eyes. "I used all sorts of this on that bastard."
See? HILARIOUS!

I simp for Sydney, she really does it all. Like everything that gets done in these books is 100% her, all the other characters are cardboard cut outs compared to her.
Initial rating (04/2020)- 3 stars

I found this not as good as Bloodlines. This might be due to finding Sydney really frustrating due to being socially naïve and her obsession with her calories and sugar when she is already skinny. Hopefully this eases in the next book.
Also cliffhanger! Good thing I already have the next book.

I have been so busy with exams, so it has actually been three weeks since I finished this book. So forgive me if I forget a lot of details (I have the memory of a goldfish).
I went into this book, putting it off because I knew I had to focus on studying, but then my mind went 'f*ck it', and so i found myself giving up a whole day for this book. Tbh, I wasn't even properly studying, so I think it was a win-win.
Anyways, the plot revolves around Sydney still in the same position as the last book; residing in the boarding school in Palm Springs. It was mainly a character driven book, so the characters don't actually move around all that much.
But there is some progress romance-wise.
WE GOT A KISS BETWEEN SYDNEY AND ADRIAN!!! AHHHHHHH, MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT.
Now, seriously, Adrian is a true romantic at heart. That speech was very close to heart, and I can't believe Sydney pushed him away after that. Girl????? And the fact that she was LITERALLY thinking about Adrian while on a date with Brayden!!
Thankfully, I have read spoilers, and they do, in fact, end up together.
But why does Adrian get his little heart broken so many times? He has been though enough, and seriously deserves some tlc after all this. First Rose, and now Sydney. I really feel like this man is attracted to main characters here.
Jill's life is pretty much summed up in her own words, jumping from boy to boy (sorry, I couldn't be bothered to find the actual quote). And Eddie needs to get his act together. GO FOR JILL MY MAN!! FORGET ABOUT FRICKINGANGELA!! I can't believe that was how their relationship turned out. Seriously, Eddie?
Moving away from the romance, theWarriors of the Light (or whatever they are called) were an interesting addition, though not unexpected. The old dude (who I also forget the name of) was alluding to it for ages. They honestly remind me a lot of lessers from the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
I am also very disappointed with Trey. Can we not have one normal character? Well, we do have Michal (or whatever his name. I have a serious issue with names in books). Trey and the history teacher (omg, I really need to write these names down) were both related to magic.
And that's another thing, what is up with that woman. And....witches? That was the most random thing that we came across. Anyways, I do like her for her attempts at getting Sydney to practice some magic.
In Vampire Academy, we could clearly feel Rose's personality though the writing. It is very similar here. The writing speaks of Sydney's organized and good mind. She is becoming better with dealing with vampires, which I am immensely proud of her for. And she be casting spells so well. I would love to see some of that in the next books.
Richelle Mead writes the most addicting books, I swear. Despite the fact that it is character driven (which i usually hate), I managed to finsih this quite quickly (like, only-one-day quickly).
Overall, I really loved this book, and would definitely recommend. I seriously cannot wait to read the next book (which is the only reason I wanna get this review done with lol).

This book was amazing and I enjoyed reading it a lot .I don't mind reading it over again .... dear Adrian :Hold on your happy ending is coming soon ..well if it isn't then you know where you can find me
Heh, I accidentally finished this last night, and it ended so strongly that I immediately purchased the next one on my Kindle. I had not intended to buy any books this pay period, oops! LOL.
Anyway, this was decent. The first half was all character stuff and focused way too much on Sydney Sage's social ineptitude/awkwardness for my liking, although that IS an important character trait- just the way it's repetitively noted gets old. The real conflict of the story wasn't introduced until the book was over halfway done. Now, once it WAS, it got really good and that's when I accidentally read the whole back half of the book.
Mostly, I enjoyed this book for the developments with Adrian, who I have always enjoyed a lot. And I really appreciate his staunch "no means no" stance when it comes to Sydney, although this does not extend as perfectly as I would like (using compulsion, even very mild, pretty much removes that option after all). I also appreciated the developments with Trey, though I wasn't surprised by them.
Probably will get started on The Indigo Spell this weekend. Apparently this is my year of Richelle Mead. ;-)
