I've been meaning to read this series for ages and I do feel slightly let down because the first book felt like one big set up. It felt like it took the entire book to set up the world and I just wanted more plot. However, since now everything feels set up, I just want more answers and want to read the next book.

I just could not find interest in the characters, but maybe I’ll come back and try again when I have more patience to power through.

Mac looses her sister in Ireland and receives a mysterious voicemail. Her whole world then erupts into chaos.

Off to Ireland to defend her sister she realizes some crazy things:
- [ ] Mac has supernatural abilities
- [ ] Fae, magic and Unseelie are everywhere.
- [ ] Her life is in danger

This was a good and enticing read. A friend at work lent it to me and I’m adding the rest of the series to my TBR!

Fun and easy story line caught me right from the beginning....light reading after Game of Thrones series.

Not well written- although I would be pleasantly surprised with some clever dialogue or narrative every now and then. I do not feel compelled to read the sequel! This was my first foray into urban fantasy.

Interesting concept, looking forward to more of the series.

Wow - intense, totally, and utterly intense. I was going CRAZY! Mac is a very fun heroine but sometimes I wanted to smack her because she would get herself in all sorts of dangerous situations. Luckily for Mac, she has the best weapon anyone could want - Barrons. I have it bad bad for Barrons. He's got it all, mysterious, interesting, smart, manly, handsome, strong, need I say more? And to top all that a British accent - SOLD! So it was a great introduction to the series. The author has an awesome writing, very keen into detail and given the complication of the plot all the information flowed beautifully. Mac's emotions were so palpable, so human, it was tragic yet it helps you connect fully with her and give you a sense of revenge as well, pushing you to see how will she do right by her sister. Now must get started to reading Book 2!

Yeah, so I tried. It didn't work. It's not Moning, it's me.

The beginning of the book so cliched. I'm sorry, but it really, really is. Our heroine is buxom, but not fat; blonde, and has great legs. She goes to Ireland to discover the killer of her older, brunette, supposedly smarter but really dumber sister. And we know it's Ireland because people talk funny. And despite the whole Euro exchange rate thing, our heroine really isn't worried about money, even though she says is. And she talks tough. I'm not really sure how she ID'ed her sister's body, and why didn't her sister call a landline, and how come our heroine doesn't have any friends to go with her?

And how come this is just like every blasted heroine in all other generic UF and YA?

You know, when I'm asking that many questions, it isn't a good sign.

I’m a little shocked by the amount of rave reviews this book has. My first thought after starting the book was that Mac as a narrator seemed to be a middle aged woman speaking, not a 22 year old. When i found out that she is actually a young woman, and one that describes her own body as young and “taut,” I had a hard time relating to her or seeing her thought process as relatable- simply because the way that she spoke and described things did not match up with a young adult. The descriptions of the hair, makeup, outfits and nails annoyed me as I felt they took up too much room in the book itself. The descriptions of how Barrons handled Mac, giving her bruises unapologetically, made me uncomfortable. The “exotic” genetic background of Barrons made me shift in my seat too. I think this book is a byproduct of an era best left in the early 2000s. If it weren’t for these types of issues I would continue to read the series but the pitfalls are enough to make me cringe and not want to continue reading.

I had pretty high hopes for this one…. I just hated it.
