Loved this book! This is my first real taste of fantasy as an adult -- I haven't really read much fantasy since I was younger -- and I am loving it! Mac is a lot to handle, girl needs to grow up a bit. But I am so excited to see where this takes her and how this story develops.
Not like other girls main character and some very very cliche moments. The setting and horror aspects make it different to other romance novels but the characters are pretty flat and dull l honestly.
Trashy fluff. Still a fun read, but was expecting a bit more raciness considering the trashiness. Got to the end of hte book and thought "wheres the sex?"

This book is okay enough if you ignore the main characters weird fetishization and gross racism regarding Jericho Barrons.
'he came from criminals and barbarians explains the bad attitude'
'primitive pair of genes' ew ew ewwwwwww someone get this vapid white girl away from me.

2.5 stars. The positives for me: I am enjoying the world, the story, and aspects of the characters that were developed. I've also read that the first book is not the best, so I'm wanting to try the 2nd book. The negatives: This is not good writing. There's a lot of telling and not showing. For example (and I'm paraphrasing) "I won't bore you with the details about all of the super creepy creatures that are coming out but they were super creepy." and "I won't waste your time by telling you how the fight scene ended. It just did." And also a ton of foreshadowing. Not as much foreshadowing as a quick sentence that sums up how things will end, or who you should trust, or how her life will never ever ever be the same again. The sex stuff also didn't do it for me. Some magical creature makes her orgasm at the drop of a hat. Uh-huh. So, all that being said, I'm willing to give the second book a go and hope for the best! (I hate writing negative reviews, but I know some of my friends go off my goodreads suggestions for their next reads and I feel uncomfortable recommending this one...)
Barrons is one very mysterious sexy man. Who exactly is he and how can he do the things he does? Where’s the dark book and how’s Mac gonna save the world? I have so many questions! This is exactly what makes me excited to keep on reading a series. I saw in a lot of the reviews that people didn’t care for Mac. I didn’t have a problem with her. She’s a twenty two year old character that gets thrust in the world of fae and doesn’t know anything about who she really is. She’s gotta learn as she goes. I also gotta point out the part about the “royal” fae and the effect they have on sidhe-seers, it’s a little cheesy and funny at the same time, specially when Mac would realize her clothes were suddenly on the ground.
A lot of weird descriptions of how preppy the MC is, but the main plot premise is interesting
