Mac is shallow with a main character trait that sets her up to be raped at any second, Jericho is bland problematic bad boy with abusive tendencies, but at least the world building was interesting... I kind of don't want to continue this, but it was recommended by a friend who LOVES this series and apparently it improves later on so....maybe I'll go one more book in.

I can confirm yes, I still love this book, yes, it still has issues and I still don’t care. Mac and Barrons are everything.

I still love this book! Mac and Barrons at the start are just awesome. Their silent convos and the tension between them

Not my usual style of book but, thanks to Beth for letting me read it, I was really able to get into it! It was written so well, I was really able to sympathize with the main character and I was completely devasted when the book ended! Gotta read the next one!

4.5/5stars
Woah woah WOAHHH I loved this! Some might argue it wasn't worth a 4.5 stars, but holy hell, I don't care - I enjoyed this book SO much.
This was exactly what I wanted in a book right now. It was fast paced, filled with action, adventure, romance, and an awesome, fascinating new world filled with new creatures and ideas that I've never read about in other books. The characters were spot on, there are still so many questions and mysteries, and I cannot WAIT to start the next one - which I will be doing right now.

This was a fun new world to explore! I’m excited to continue the series, though this wasn’t my favorite read so far.

I enjoyed the lore and the storytelling, however I struggled with Mac and her insistence to be a stubborn bull. 😅 I know she has a lot of character growth to work into, but i found her slightly insufferable.

That being said, i’m excited to see what happens next - what sorts of creatures i’ll meet and if we can pinpoint WHAT exactly Barrons is. 👀

I couldn’t finish it. The protagonist is insufferable.

Until her sister’s untimely death MacKayla, Mac, Lane was a small town girl from Georgia. She didn’t believe in anything supernatural. When she got a cryptic voice-mail message her sister had sent just hours before her death, Macs whole world changed and not for the better. She found herself in Dublin trying to find her sisters killer and seeing the oddest things, like monsters that suck beauty from women. Until now she didn’t know that she could see beyond the human world into the realm of Faery. Worse than that, a few of the Fae know that she can see them, and are trying to kill her. Who can she trust in a world gone topsy turvy? Can she hope to survive another day alone?

Although I enjoyed the first book - the series went steadily downhill and I won't read anything else by Moning.

First off, this book was a lot less romance-y than the last paranormal romance I read and I'm grateful for that. I don't mind a few sex scenes/descriptions, but Kiss of Midnight was just creepy. It's actually more of a mystery/Buffy type setting and that made me happy because I've been looking for a story similar to Buffy's without the usually horrific writing of the Buffyverse novels.

My only 2 gripes with this book are pretty minimal. By about halfway through, I was incredibly tired of Mac referring to her nail polish color, hair color, how much time she spent getting dressed in her super-cute clothes, etc. She did this mostly while "talking" to the reader, and that's a style of writing that bothers me most of the time. Also, after a big battle or big event, there is usually something you know is important that might be missing or unknown (don't want to give too much away here). The author takes her sweet time by making small talk and talking of pretty unimportant things before Mac or another character calmly mentions the fate of what was most important in the situation.

I really enjoyed this, and it was another free Kindle download so that made it even better. I'm sure I'll pay to read the rest of the series because this first installment got me pretty hooked.
