Wow, this was a fantastic book! Exactly what I needed to hear right now. The author weaves her life experience with autism and her hiking journey together in a lovely and seamless style that kept my interest all throughout.
While my autism presents itself differently in some ways, there were many times during this book that I’d hear her experiences and my eyes would water and I’d think “my goodness, someone put it in words”.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and now I think I want to purchase a physical copy so I can highlight all of the many parts that resonated with me.
Thank you Katherine May for sharing your experiences! <3

I have really enjoyed Katherine’s other books (Wintering and Enchantment) so I thought I’d read this one too. Unfortunately it only reminded me that most people who have children talk about them constantly. I feel like the book kept veering off into tales about her son which really didn’t interest me. There was a lot of writing about the coastal journey which didn’t interest me either. I was looking for more in depth thoughts and feelings about her diagnosis going way back in the past rather than ‘coastal walk with my son’. It wasn’t for me but I’ll still keep an eye on Katherine’s work in the future.

Woah. This spoke to me like nothing else.
Love Katherine May, but had very high expectations from “Wintering.” Didn’t quite live up to that, but still some interesting insights about autism in womanhood/motherhood
Katherine May documents two journeys in this book: a literal walking journey and her journey to an autism spectrum diagnosis. This book gave me ALL the feels. It is more lyric than fast-paced, which is her brand. This is a fabulous book for those interested in the topic.

Requested this for Christmas. Not what I thought it was going to be. More about hiking and complaining while Autistic than exploring the nature of Autism by way of hiking.
Intelligent author with talent, but not a great format for the stated goals.
