I'm so glad this book is over. I found it to be predominantly painful reading that degenerated even further near the end. I'd be happy to read another Rushdie in time though, and I have a feeling I'll regret starting with this one.

Worst bit of drivel I have had the misfortune to pick up in awhile. Not going to become a fan.

Even though Rushdie is a great writer, his output is inconsistent. Sometimes I will devour his novels and other times he'll bore me. Unfortunately Fury is not one of his better book.

The novel deals with puppeteer Malik Solanka, a man who has left London to the US due to the problems occurring in this personal life. He then embarks on a series of affairs and attempts to break into Hollywood. All which increase his fury for modern society, until eventually he realises about love and embracing life.

Dull, way too many references to pop culture and a lukewarm plot. Disappointing. Saying that I will read Rushdie because I do know that he can surprise.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I picked it at random off a shelf at home and I'm really glad I did. It takes a while to actually get into the action of the story, so I did go through this one quite slowly. There is a point around half way through the book though where it really takes off and it went in a direction I was not expecting at all. The slow and methodical description and development of the characters had a clear purpose and when I figured that out the book really opened up for me. I have to say though, for me the best thing about Fury was that it turned me on to Rushdie's writing and is the reason that I got The Satanic Verses.

I lent the book to my flatmate (who is an ecologist) and he did not like it at all. Essentially he didn't see that anything was happening and couldn't be arsed reading about some dollmaker. His loss

I had a hard time with this one. It think my problem was that I didn't care for the main conceit and had difficulty after that. Okay, but certainly not my favorite Rushdie.

Next time I want to read about a middle aged man being generally bitter at the way we live in this day and age, I can reread Ben Lerner's 10:04 because that, at least, was enjoyable.
