Read while on desk and then before work the next morning. My favorite picture/word formula happening here. So much emotion and humanity and humor in all these drawings. Love all the food. Really gets both the adult and child perspectives. Thanks for sharing your experience!

A very interesting, beautiful story. A bit too "American Dream" for my taste, especially considering the Build the Wall references in the end, and the timeline jumps were a bit confusing to adapt to; but overall, a solid nonfiction graphic novel about a Vietnamese immigrant experience.

While Thien’s story was interesting, the overall tone and storyline was strongly led by a romanticized viewpoint of “the American dream” that believes and helps uphold a completely broken, racist system. That and the art style wasn’t my favorite, making this one a miss for me.

I found it to be an interesting story. I enjoyed following Thien as he grew up and had to navigate life.

This book is a beautiful telling of a refuge family story. The illustrations are lovely and the story is emotional. I couldn't put it down.

A cute(ish) memoir with food chapter names. I enjoyed this because it was from a different perspective than normal.
