The new takes on the fairy tales I already knew were unique and engaging. There were a number of fairy tales included, that I'd never heard of before and was happy to learn about. There were stories that fell short for me in this anthology, but there were more that I loved or at least found interesting.

The stories were all enhanced by the author's note that was included at the end of every story. I wish all anthologies held the authors note to the end of the respective stories.

There are too many stories to discuss them all, but here are my favorites from this collection:
* Seasons of Glass and Iron by Amal El-Mohtar
* The Briar and the Rose by Marjorie Liu
* Pearl by Aliette de Board

The troop is a great story just crazy enough to be possible. The narrative unfolded at a good pace that made it difficult to stop reading once the read world called. The characters were well developed, each bringing their own weight to the story and having their semi developed personalities laid bare and called to action in the worst possible way.
I enjoyed every page of this story.

This is one of those books that make me want to build a whole class around it, like "Contemporary Black Feminism." Honestly, I was not at all familiar with Janet Mock before a friend recommended this book, and now I am a huge fan and supporter. This book is so timely and smart while at the same time accessible. I love how easily Mock integrates quotes from literary as well as pop culture figures. A truly seminal text. p.s. Mock also was a first-gen student, and I wish that she had spent more time discussing her college experiences.

Highly recommend the audiobook read by Janet Mock. The writing is beautiful and her reading is so soothing. The book is honest, funny, and at times gut wrenching. I definitely teared up a number of times.

Janet's story is such an important one and one I find that more young feminists should read. I appreciate the way she explains her situation, weaving in quotes and data from other sources. I also appreciate the way she makes clear that what she went through is her story, and her story is not the only one out there.

Really fast read/listen on Hoopla. I also did a lot of biking, so that meant more listening time.

Great memoir and very useful for everyone to read and understand one woman's experience of being a biracial trans woman who grew up in the 90s. There is explicit description of child molestation and assault, as a warning.

Mock's story is both very lucky in how her family eventually accepted her and unlucky in how she moved around a lot and had instability due to parental drug use and rotating parental boyfriends/girlfriends. Great read.
