Sweet mercy this book was so great. Like the blurb says, it's the apocalypse that no one expected. No zombies, no aliens, no drastic climate change, no lava or brimstone....Jam. Sticky, carnivorous, strawberry jam. I think it's so preposterous that is just had to work. No. Scratch that. It's so preposterous that it took a master to make it work. Yahtzee does an amazing job of being patently ridiculous with his characters and the situations they find themselves in, while simultaneously making the jampocalypse very real and serious. The book kind of reminded me of the tone in "John Dies at the End" and "This Book is Full of Spiders" by David Wong in that it dealt with horror in a way that is really pretty damn funny. I don't know what else to say, really, other than that I recommend this book very highly. Just read it. You'll like it.

Amazing premise. I burst out laughing at least a dozen times. The overall ending felt a little unsatisfying, so I’m giving it a 4.

Quite humorous; a good follow up to MOGWORLD. There was little fluff and I could easily have read another chapter or two. Or a sequel. In fact, the speedy ending is the only major criticism, aside from some topical comments.

I didn't "hate" it, but I also didn't like it.

It was like taking Lord of the Flies, mixing it with SyFy's Z-Nation, shaking a little bit of the worst espionage movie you've ever seen and then sandwiching it (yes, pun intended) between characters that are totally unlikable, completely unrealistic, and have zero personality ... but, the premise is original... kind-of.

Also, repeatedly mentioning that "black and brown" people are treated differently, without any social commentary or revelation is a really weird flex.

I really wanted to like this book, as the author was highly recommended. This is the second book I've tried by him, and I don't think there will be a third. Unless it is to complete the series started in the first book I read. But that's more on me, because I am a "completionist", and not on the quality of the series itself.

Both books I read were audiobook editions and read by the author.

Brilliant. Made me laugh out loud many times, which I needed. And yes, humans are hopeless, lol. Great concept, well written. Recommended!

What an odd premise for a story: the protagonist wakes up one morning to find Brisbane covered in a layer of carnivorous strawberry jam. It gets odder than that as well. Throw in a couple of US secret agents, a settlement of survivors that winds up being a weird cult, another run like a corporate entity and an unlikely band of heroes and you have a fun take on the coming apocalypse. There are a few plot threads that were dropped that I thought could have been explored more, but it was a lot of fun.

Liked this well enough. Not as good as Mogworld, but still quite entertaining.
