This is the female version of “Flowers of Algernon” by Daniel Keyes. It is everything I dislike about the other book.

The writing is point blank “this is what I did today.” It does not anything interesting to suck you into the plot. The characters are not memorable. They should’ve changed their names to towns person A, B, or C so I know who is talking.

I personally hate the use of words like mortals. It comes off a way that this person thinks they are better than everyone else. I don’t think it’s seen as an unbiased objective but snarky. This is the tone they set in their writing.

This was charming. It took me a while to get into it, but once I was hooked I did not want to put it down. The narrators did a wonderful job.

One of my favorite books of the year! A whimsical tale about a curmudgeonly professor + her hilariously opposite academic rival (friend?), fae, and magical landscapes. It's exactly the kind of cozy/romance/fantasy that I've been looking for :)

This was mostly cozy except for one part so I can’t 100% recommend it as cozy fiction but I loved, loved loved it. I’m so glad there are two more books in this series!!!
