Who knew that a memoir with this much science would be so interesting to non-scientists? But Jahren beautifully interweaves stories of plant growth and lives with her own life. Beautiful.

Honestly found it very fun and engaging and inspiring but also don't like how she talks about students 🙃

A lot of people told me to read this, so naturally I avoided it. But I'm glad I gave it a try. It's strange and perfect and sometimes embarrassing in it's earnestness.

Who would have known that plants and humans have so much in common. This story was beautiful and telling of the true nature of woman.

The prose in this book is so stunningly beautiful and happens to be right up my alley with the love of plants and all things dirt-related. I liked how the author wove both her professional discoveries and her personal story and it was written with almost perfect cadence. I made more highlights in this book than any other book I've read, and I will treasure her insightful thoughts for years to come. It is rare that someone captures my feelings and thoughts so eloquently - she turns all my roughly formed ideas into things that dance off the pages. Truly an amazing read for anyone who loves or is interested in plants and the "why" of nature. I will be reading this again and again (even if I have to borrow it from the library a dozen more times!).

I wanted more science! This is more of an autobiography, and that's okay. Other than the way they treated/mocked some of the students and perhaps the fact that they did not get married, I appreciate Hope and Bill's story. Decent read.
