Although I agree with other reviewers that this book is a rehash of his debut novel, the gorgeous prose and heartbreaking tale still kept me hooked all the way through

second star for gay generosity but good god, this book was painfully dull. maybe it picks up when mungo actually starts a relationship with bungo but it was so SLOW and i was a THIRD of the way through and literally NOTHING had happened sorry mate

While the first half of Stuart’s novel is slow, the second half is painful. Young Mungo is billed as a romance story but only a small bit of the pages are dedicated to building the relationship between boys, the rest seem dedicated to punishing Mungo for his glimpse of happiness and indulging the reader in “trauma porn”.
