The story of a teenage boy living in a place of poverty, sectarianism, homophobia and neglect. There’s such a sadness in this tale with glimmers of hope and happiness. It feels a very raw read but it is so well written by Douglas Stuart (and read by Chris Reilly) that it pulls you through, rooting for Mungo every step of the way. The cast of characters are likeable and unlikeable in equal measure. They are painted brilliantly that you can see them in front of you as you read. So many themes in this book that make you think about injustice and ignorance hoping that society has or will move on and become better. Thoroughly recommend it.
So good. Full of surprises. We need a sequel, please.
