Time to catch up on some reviews. I will not tell you that this memoir captivated me from the get-go and held my attention the entire time. I will however tell you that it is an incredibly interesting perspective, and I don't think we have a lot of memoirs that are this raw and honest about something that people might judge them for. Because why would one obsess over a tennis teacher who did not choose them as a victim? That is what this memoir digs into. It's one of those memoirs that doesn't interest seeing things in terms of narrative and chapter structure, so for those who are writers this is an interesting read for that alone. There's also a lot about just growing up in the '90s in New York, as well as those who have an elite background, and the problems within that. So this is not a gory who done it, tail from a victim's perspective, instead it's from an outsider's perspective who is also within that world. Really interesting and so for that four stars definitely merited.

I though this was going to be a true crime story. I didn't realize that I was getting into basically Gossip Girl in memoir form, yet more shallow.

If I had realized this was what I was getting into, I may have rated it differently. However, the fact that this is about being a true crime really made me disconnect from the story as a whole. This was just not my cup of tea!

This was an interesting account of a now adults view on what happened in her childhood. I had high expectations and was let down. I believe that this was mainly due to not liking the main character (Piper). She came across as the spoiled kid who plays the victim and still hasn’t figured her life out as an adult. Disappointed but still well-written.

I’m enjoyed the book but it’s not a wow book or anything I would reread again. Nor would it be at the top of the list for suggestions to others.

A blend of true crime and memoir, the writing was interesting but the pace of the story was quite slow. Understand that the evidence was limited due to the lack of shared evidence in the crime and the focus on the author’s personal story during the time but felt a little unbalanced.

She was WAY too into herself, and I just couldn't sympathize with a NYC private-school kid's neuroses. I guess I wanted more of a straight-forward crime tale. Now I need to look for a pulpy true-crime book about Gary...
