Clever but not that clever
This as a quick read and I admit it was fun. The “reveal” at the end was interesting and I liked the ending. The bulk of the novel, however, seemed like less of an homage to Golden Age mysteries and more to 1980s horror movies - all of the young people behave like morons and don’t show an ounce of reason. Their personalities are paper thin and I didn’t care a bit when people wind up dead. Overall this book was ok, but it’s no “And Then There Were None”

If you like closed circle/ and then there were none style murder mysteries, definitely give this one a try! The writing is not outstanding but the plot is.

On Tsunojima Island is the Decagon House. The Mystery Club from the K University is visiting to stay at the house and get some writing done for their clubs magazine. The island is famous for well known unsolved murders.
As the group begins to get picked off one by one and tensions run high, the group brings to turn in each other. They will need to use their knowledge of murder mysteries if they want to survive before it’s too late.
My Thoughts: This is still one one my favourite mystery books. It’s well written and kept me guessing who the killer would be. It’s a perfect locked room style mystery I didn’t have it figured out who the killer was till the end. I definitely would give this a read if you love locked room mysteries
