My sibling and I did a buddy read and kept commenting on how every time

Van spoke we'd realize we'd forgotten about him and decided if he was the murderer this was brilliant writing. We were suspicious of him, but still inconclusive.

I really enjoyed this book and had a great time making guesses along the way. Couldn't help but roll my eyes at the

"pretty girl" character being the one to get hysterical though.

This was my first Japanese “locked room mystery” after having it recommended when looking for things similar to Knives Out.

I really enjoyed the pacing of the book as well as how it switched between the POV of the 7 characters on the island and the detective trio of Kawaminami, Morisu and Shimada.

The twist was very good although I was slow to catch on at the reveal, and the whole book genuinely had me changing theories at every new murder and discovery. I liked the blend of characters personalities and how they all reacted differently to the events taking place.

I will definitely be moving onto The Mill House Murders and already have a stack of Japanese mysteries on my TBR.

Actually loved this book. Had a bit too much dialogue for my liking however the concept and the murder mystery was executed well and I didn’t see the plot twist at the end on who the murderer was. Have bought the authors other book and am keen to give it a read.
