The university mystery club finds themselves targeted and forced to try and solve their own murders…
The Decagon House Murders by Yukito Ayatsuji is a Japanese murder mystery set on an isolated island…with a group of students trapped and unable to escape their unknown killer…
The University Mystery Club enjoys reading and discussing detective fiction. It’s no surprise they take up an opportunity to vacation on Decagon Island…where the mysterious Blue Mansion Fire and the Decagon House Murders occurred…
Concurrently, a former member of the mystery club finds himself recieving letters from beyond the grave…written by a father seeking revenge for his daughter’s death.
I should mention that the father was one of the victims of the Decagon House Murders, and his daughter was a former mystery club member who died mysteriously while she was with the club…
So there in lies the problem…is a dead man targeting the club and were they involved with the death of his daughter?
It’s an odd mystery with not as much “fair play” as I’d like. I had a few issues with the final resolution, but it was still pretty good…
Probably the closest approximation to an Agatha Christie novel of the Japanese mysteries I’ve read so far…

A well written mystery story by someone who is clearly very passionate about the genre. It was fun discovering the secret of the Decagon House, it's origins and how everyone ended up there.

The translation left something to be desired but all in all this was an excellent homage to And Then There Were None but it also stood well on its own. I wouldn't call it a great read apart from its mystery aspect and I obviously didn't like the (expected) casual sexism, but it was definitely entertaining.

Needed more character development but I was not able to guess who the murderer was
