Emphasizing the legacy of women, THE RIVER REMEMBERS is a powerful and engaging story of three females—Black, white, and Native. This history of their fortitude is welcome amid typically male-centered accounts of pioneers crossing the frontier to settle in the west.

Very interesting read about when the US Government kept moving the natives off their land as they were purchasing territories and creating mores states. Told through the three very different, yet similar women and all facing tough decisions as rights are being threatened for some, taken from others and given to those who only continue to gain. I loved how the author used the three different women to weave this story about some of the terrible things that happened in history and how it affected them based on their standing and background. Samantha Lockwood is bound to go against her fathers wishes and marry for love not convenience or family status. Day Sets has had a child with a white man and is quickly learning that the ways of the white man and his government are not providing as promised. Harriet Robinson born into slavery is getting insight into what freedom looks like when she is sent north as a "servant". I learned a lot about history of the terrible things the government promised and did to obtain land in the northern territories and continue to grow the states without regard to those who already resided on this land. Very interesting read! Thank you to the author for the free novel and to Suzy Approved Book Tours for the invite. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

Beautiful historical tale of 3 very different women (all who were real)- Samantha, a young white woman sent to live with her brother when she refused to marry the man her father picked for her. Day Sets- a Dakota Indian woman that has to deal with her white husband's legal wife while he sends their daughter, Mary, to learn from a white school. Harriet- a Black slave girl who yearns to be freed.

This was well researched and I learned a lot. I felt deeply for each of the women and their different hardships. It's a shame how Blacks and Indians were treated/are treated. It flows really well and is a fast, engaging read.
