This book has a POV for every character, and a POV for their wolves soooo yeah. Not really my cup of tea, the romance is non-existent, actually there is no romance if I’m being real just a couple of mentions of lustful feelings.
The characters have been traumatized and the book is about them finding their way back to healing, that’s the entire plot. No mystery at all.
I also really hate how the author positions the main three characters but especially Hayden as always getting into blunders, the man can’t even take a step without seeming “dominant” to some of the abused wolves and then apologizing for traumatizing them. If I had to guess the percentage of this book dedicated to apologies from Hayden, I would say 70%. It’s extremely exhausting.
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely not, sorry.

I was staring at my tags, trying to figure out how to classify this book, but nothing really fits - it's a book that defies classification, or at least my classification.

This was a beautiful, slow, slice-of-life book about a pack of shifter that have been through hell and are trying to fix themselves. The characters are wonderful, and there is a lyrical, almost poetic style to the narrative that I just adored. It reminded me a bit of Michelle Sagara's Chronicles of Elantra series in terms of narrative style. It's a style I love.

And man, the flower funeral ... so beautiful. I cried my damn eyes out.

I'm super excited to have found this series. Thanks Alice!

This was a pleasant surprise. I had this on my TBR list for a while and finally decided to try it. I finished it in one sitting. While I have come to have a love/hate with paranormal fantasy books now this one was just great: well-written, with an interesting plot and deep characters.

The plot focuses on a new alpha taking over a broken shifter pack (mostly wolves). I have always loved books about how people become leaders and the way it takes to slowly gain trust and this book was that. ([b:Lady Knight|153800|Lady Knight (Protector of the Small, #4)|Tamora Pierce|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1215394344l/153800._SX50_.jpg|1031900] is one of my top 5 books and one I re-read on almost a yearly basis because of this) Watching the characters and interactions just left me wanting more.

There were hints of future romance but none in this book, which I also liked. I’ll keep reading the series to see if it stays as high as this one did in my expectations.

This is not the most well written book but I read it in less than 24 hours. It made me cry and I couldn’t put it down. I’m definitely reading book 2.

I did enjoy this, but at times it was also very frustrating, it's pretty slow going in places.

I also felt that we're introduced to a huge number of characters in one go and I had a hell of a time trying to remeber who was who. It's a little bit weird how the shifters seem to communicate with their own animal- there will be times when they scratch behind their wolfs ears or something (when they're human) and the wolf will occasionally make an opinion known and it takes until the next paragraph for me to figure it was their wolf that said that rather than someone actually physically present, I just wish I had a bit more of a clue how the shifting thing works in this world.

I first read this authors modern witch series years ago. She wrote under the name debora Geary for that series. I found that series to be enchanting. The focus on community and family, in lifting others up and celebrating each other. Offering unconditional love were wonderful. The story sometimes introduced so many characters I struggled to keep track of them all. The writing often left we unsure what was going on. I have the exact same review for this series. It brings me the same warm feelings the original modern witch series did and I’m happy to have rediscovered this author.

Fantastic

Audrey Faye is quickly moving up the list of my favorite/must read authors and this book just moved her to the top. Fantastic book about shifters, friendships, with excellent writing and editing.
