Nifty novella. I seem to have inadvertently read two "the world is a simulation" books in a row, but I didn't know that's what this was when I started it.
Yes, this book bears resemblances to the Matrix movies but it reminded me a lot of RPG gaming. The more that the Wode was described, the more it reminded me it gaming AIs. I enjoyed the simple concept (a dinner date) within a major scope and the ending was fun.

A nice surprise from Sanderson--no one knew this was coming out. This type of story has been done before, but as always, Sanderson has a good twist on it. Still, it's not as inventive as some of his other stuff, and had a very abrupt end.
Pretty interesting concept. Hoping we'll eventually see more of Kai.
Really good and interesting little story. Does a very good job at being complete at only 87 pages, but I would love to see more of this story & this world.
A quick read that takes about an hour. Loved the idea for this world and would love to see a sequel novella (or even a full on series). And, as is typical with Sanderson, there is a great plot twist at the end.
Slightly confusing at first, this story picks up steam when the main character gets instructions to propogate... this story once again shows off Mr Sandersons ability to create a new environment and "magic system" outstanding stuff
Sanderson is always a good time. His characters have shape and dimension that are pleasing. However, I found the treatment of the "feminist" Sophie to be disappointingly predictable. I realize that the sexism of the protagonist largely informs the reading of Sophie, but it is still disappointing to me that female characters are written in such predictable ways.
Otherwise, the story is entertaining and is a quick paced read. Not his best effort, but an interesting thought piece nonetheless.

An interesting sci-fi idea by a great author, unlike most of his other novellas, this one suffers from being too short. The setting is too interesting, the character interactions too intriguing, to tie up and expect a satisfying story in less than 10,000 words. The ending was surprising, and sad, but the impact was lessened because there isn't much sympathy with the characters yet and the consequences aren't tangible. Still, an interesting read, and not a bad one if you're looking to kill an hour or two.
