I decided to read this book because it sounded like a homage to Poe. However, I honestly had a really hard time getting through this book. I listened to the audio and kept losing focus. I'm a horror fan, but I'm not a western fan. I found that I was lost at times because there were so many characters to keep track of. I got tired of hearing the same phrases over again. I just got to the point where I didn't really care, it was like white noise. I like Josh Malerman, but I just didn't like this book. I was generous in giving it 3 stars because if you're a western reader, you'd probably like it.

I think this book could’ve been stronger as a short story, or if there were 50-75 less pages. But the ending was perfection! It just took forever to get there. Still a fun read!

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. I would really like to see another book with tales of " The Trail " with Moxie and Rinaldo.

This book was one I just really struggled to stay focused on while reading. Whenever the perspective switched, it took a long time to figure out what was going on. I eventually settled in and enjoyed the story alright, but I think it could just make a good movie. It could have been an interesting novella, but the pacing was just too slow. Good concepts, but strangely dull.
