Just not as spooky or creepy as I thought and wanted it to be
Is there anything scarier than being buried alive?
Another great book by Malerman. Very Stephen King-esque only less wordy and more suspenseful. Couldn’t put it down but kept sidelining it to make it last.

Carol has a unique diesese. Every once in a while she falls into a death like coma and cannot be awoken. After her best friend dies, Carol falls into her coma and no one else knows about her illness except her husband Dwight, who decides to bury Carol and claim her money. But James Moxie, Carol's old flame who left her for the Trail, knows she's not dead and is coming to stop her from being put in the ground.
So this is about as scary as I get. There was this definite creepy vibe and old west vibe. So I'm kinda on the fence about how much I liked it. The creepy crazy crippled Smoke and Rot were my least favorite parts of the book, especially Smoke. I actually ended up a little curious about Rot and not of my questions got answered. The trail was a strange place and I'm torn about if i want to know more about it or not. I did like that Carol managed to save herself in the end.

This is horror set in the old west. A husband has nefarious plans for his comatose wife, Carol. JM, a legendary outlaw, sets off on The Trail to save her; meanwhile, on his tail is a sinister hit man with a thirst for murder-by-fire. Also working against JM is a supernatural entity, Rot, who wants to collect Carol.
Pretty creepy, atmospheric and suspenseful...

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley. Unfortunately this was not a book I would highly recommend. It seems to be set in America in the early days of our country. It had a somewhat Western Fiction feel to it. I just could not be engaged by any of these characters. I found the pace slow, the characters flat and the story line just couldn't keep my interest. I'm sure there is an audience for these types of stories but I'm just not one of them.

Josh Malerman has quickly become one of my favorite authors! Each of his books have a different flavor and Unbury Carol is no exception. This twisted take on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale is gothic horror meets the Wild West. It’s entertaining, creative and just a really good story!
