This book is a trigger warning for anyone that can't read about abuse in any form. Amazing book though!

It would be wrong to give this book anything but five stars. This is Jennette's story and I'm so proud of her for telling it. Make no mistake, this book can be hard to read. Some truly awful things have happened to her. I can't even begin to get into it, not only because I shouldn't. Trying to summarize these experiences wouldn't do justice to the impact they had on Jennette, and context is important to understanding the depth of her trauma. I cried multiple times, and my jaw dropped at the end of every other chapter. Truly, this woman has led an unbelievable life that demanded so much from her, and the mere fact of this book's existence is a mark of healing. I can't say I enjoyed reading it because that seems like an inappropriate word; this was a gut wrenching experience. But my enjoyment isn't really the point. Jennette, I hope you wrote this book for you, and that you got to say everything you wanted to say, and that you are as proud of this accomplishment as you've made me feel. I really don't think anybody else's opinion matters.

Jennette has a wonderful voice. I’m happy she finally found herself and got the help she needed. It’s profound to me that this was all happening to her while I was enjoying iCarly.
I’m glad she is able to speak her truth and get better because she wanted to. I’m sorry that she was robbed on her youth due to her mothers abuse.
The author has a talent for pinpointing her emotions and analyzing her past in how she felt and why; then bringing it back to how that has effected her journey later in life. I hope this inspires young readers to get help if they are in abusive relationship or developing an eating disorder.

Holy shit this book was amazing! So well written but also heartbreaking. Like damn, her childhood made me angry and really sad for everyone involved. I hate that she had to deal with so much as a kid but loved seeing the growth and change she’s gone through during her recovery.

I think this is an important book in terms of family dynamics, child stars, eating disorders, and so much more. The level of family distinction really highlights that family has to earn trust, love, and respect…it shouldn’t freely be given just because they’re family. Nope, family members can be just as toxic as non family members and it’s important to recognize that.

Stylistically I liked how the book was split into before and after her mom died. The chapters were short which made the book feel quick and I really just love short chapters. The audio is read by the author which is always great. All around great book and would recommend!
