VERY different than the movie, but I liked it.

I’m only about 50 pages in, but I have to DNF it. It just seems very boring and rambling.

I was surprised to realize I'd never rated this book. I'm trying to remember if I got it because I was planning my trip to Italy in 2004 or if I just happened upon it. Anyway, the book was wonderful, WAY better than the stupid movie they fabricated with the same name. While in Tuscany, Lisa B., Lisa V. and I made the pilgramage to Cortona in search of Frances Mayes' famed apricot-colored house. You should ask them how excited I was when some old Italian ladies pointed us in the right direction of where to find her home...and then the crazy coincidence that Frances and her husband were walking out right when we drove by. It was a magical afternoon. I liked Mayes' descriptions of life in Italy: eating out, truffle season, family meals, remodeling an old house. Great book.

Couldn’t finish it. The book is extremely well written with beautiful imagery but i was bored out of my mind reading it for some reason. Felt like more a chore than a passion
