I love Italy. This book was a drag. A rich American buys a beautiful historic house and makes it significantly less historic. Blah blah blah. This was such a bore. Just watch the movie if only for Sandra Oh and Kate Walsh and Rory’s dad from Gilmore Girls

The perfect vacation read! I wished Frances Mayes leaned into the idea of place a bit more. The book ended with her reflections on place and religion and culture.
