This was my first book club book, and I wrote the following in my book journal after reading it:

While living my dream like this woman did would be wonderful, I got incredibly tired of hearing about the olives she found and the ordeals of her home repair. All they did was eat in this book -- I was amazed that she didn't weigh 800 pounds. I'm sure her experience was incredible and maybe her book would mean more to me if I were at this stage in my life, but I didn't enjoy her telling of the story.

Almost makes me want to re-read it now and see if I would, in fact, like it now...

I could not even finish this book. Much different from the movie, and the movie was better for once.

To be honest, I didn't finish this book, which is not like me. I loved all the imagery and stories, but I felt like it could've been shorter and still achieved the same effect. I felt there were too many drawn out descriptions of the food, gardening, wine, & home renovations. But it's definitely a nice memoir of a beautiful place. It just needs to be condensed.

Finally finished it! Now to see the movie.

This was such a cosy, inpsiring read, perfect for escaping into while the British weather is so gloomy!

I've recently moved from London to the countyside, and this book made me even more excited for my own new chapacter, especially for the chaing of the seasons

I've given it 3 stars because not all chapters were equal. Some were more interesting/inspiring than others & so it meant that I didn't LOVE the entire book, but it was overall a lovely read

This book is much much better than the movie. I enjoy hearing the everyday struggles of restoring a house and the people within it, their exploits and explorations along with some Roman/Italian history. Gorgeous prose that makes me want to cry it's so good!

One of my top five favorite books in the world. Totally transports you to Italy. I could practically taste some of the food as she described it. Nothing like the movie!!

I'm not sure what the problem was for me. I was really excited about reading this book, and I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll return to it this summer.
