This was such a warm, happy re-read! I devoured this book when I was younger, and thought it would be a nice comfort read now that I'm an adult. I was right! I love Grassina's character and how she always remained kind no matter what was happening to and around her. Haywood is the sweetest boy saying the swooniest of things. I can't wait to re-read the rest of the series as I revist some of my favorite childhood books.

It filled in some holes from the other books, but Grassina and Haywood being influenced by a magic thing was weird and I didn't love it.

This was a pretty cute book. It was pretty predictable and stuff, but the characters are funny and sweet. It was a fun read, if not a great one.

I really wanted to give this a 4, but there's just one or two things that could have been written better, I'm not sure how to describe it. I'd probably give this a 3.4 or so. Rather enjoyable, enough so that I'm going to check out the others in the series (this is a prequel, it says it's book five but it's before the others). Hopefully, as I've been discovering, many authors' further books in a series are better than the first. We'll see!

One of my favorites of the series so far. I was sure I wasn't going to like it because I knew where everything would eventually end up (this is a prequel), but the author managed to make it interesting all along the way. This book kind of renewed my interest in the series again.
