Good read. The ending was good but it was super wordy with un-needed details to find out who the killer was IMO.
mysterious
medium-paced
I think the best part of these books is the last 15-20 pages where she puts the pieces all together and apparently has a show down with the villain.
Bobby and Kinsey's relationship could have been more fleshed out than her feeling protective of him for his survival story.
For "C is for Corpse" the best part of this story was the mini-case wrapped up in the middle of landlord Henry and new-to-town Lila. Solely for the mini-case with Henry does this book get 3 stars since we got to see more of him, and neighborhood staple: Rosie, otherwise a generous 2 stars stars since it won't let me do a 1.5.

I just finished my second Kinsey Millhone novel, the 3rd actually in the alphabet series, “C is for Corpse”……cheerful title, ain’t it? Anyway, Millhone is a female private detective & twice divorced. She meets Billy in a fitness club while training & they instantly connect, though not romantically. Bobby has an accident which he barely survived; she can see the scars on his damaged face & body. He also reveals to her that he has partial amnesia now; huge chunks of his memory are missing; he often tells a story, only to realize halfway through that he cannot remember the rest of it.
He tells Millhone about some red notebook that he had given to someone for safe-keeping & it was his gut feeling that this notebook was the reason of his accident. He thinks that his life is still in danger; whoever tried to do him in the first time, will try again. Millhone promises to help him out & meets his friends & family to know more about him.
Millhone makes an appointment to meet his family at a party given at his huge mansion. There we meet Glen; his mother, twice divorced but devoted to her only son. Derek is his step-father & has been living with them for 13 years. Also he is apparently not as rich as his wife. Bobby then introduces Kinsey to his drug-addict, teenage step-sister, Kitty. Kitty is mal-nourished & Kinsey thinks she could die any moment. But Bobby loves her and Kinsey thinks that they might be sexually involved with each other; a suspicion which surfaces again when she discovers that he has left all his fortune to Kitty in his will. We are told that Kitty’s condition became thus when her boyfriend, and Bobby’s best friend, was killed in the same accident that left Bobby alive. Bobby also reveals that Ricky’s parents blame him for the accident & he fears that they may be right; because he doesn’t remember all the details of the accident very clearly.
Meanwhile Kinsey discovers that her landlord, a man in his 60s has met a lady in her 40s & is falling head-over-heels in love with her. A few incidents arouse her suspicion that she might be a fraud who is just after him for money. So she decides to snoop around a bit using her detective skills. In this investigation she also meets an old flame of hers, who went back to his wife & thereby ended his relationship with Kinsey.
And then Bobby dies. At the same turn of the road where he had his accident 6 months ago. So now Kinsey has a dead client, who was also becoming a very dear friend of hers. She stands by his mother in this time of crisis & helps her with all the funeral arrangements. She vows to trace the person who killed Bobby.
The rest of the story tells us how Kinsey solves the case but almost getting herself killed in the process.
All in all; it was a decent read. Not one of my blood-curling thrillers; but a good book nevertheless. Recommended for all crime & detection enthusiasts.

Nice read, easy pace and interesting story. Kinsey is getting more rounded as a character as books go by. I like the relationship she establishes with her neighbours, specially Henry and how she tries to take care without being intrusive.
The story is well built and all characters are interesting and lively. Maybe it was the first time I didn't guess the killer beforehand. Also, the ending, as always is rushed and quick, but it fits the character and the story.

Sadly, this was more predictable than the first two, and still a bit too short for my liking. Still having fun though, so I'll keep going. These make good breaks in between more substantial books, and I'm hoping the next one in the series will be better
