C is for Corpse by Sue Grafton is an early case for Kinsey Millhone, the private detective from Santa Teresa (aka Santa Barbara, CA). This case starts when the spoiled-rich, but sympathetic, Bobby Callahan hires her because he believes someone is trying to murder him. He believes he was run off the road nine months ago in an accident that left him with partial amnesia and paralysis. No one believes him, especially the parents of his best friend, Rick Bergen, who died in the accident.
This series continues to Y is for Yesterday The author died at the end of 2017 without leaving a manuscript for Z. She will be missed, but Kinsey Millhone will live on in the 25 mystery novels in this well-loved series.

I don't understand it myself, but I'm really into this series.
Yes, it drones on about unimportant details and is really into describing houses and plants. Yes, Kinsey is a little distant most of the time. Yes, her thoughts about her neighbour are a little weird... Yet I'm really drawn to it.
I liked how this one gave us a little more back story regarding Kinsey and her crew. I also enjoyed the mystery though some aspects of it were a little on the nose.

Solid novel. I just wished there weren't two separate cases ( Henry's girlfriend, Lila, and Bobby Callahan). The whole case around Lila could have made an interesting novel in itself. Overall, a good read.
Kinsey Millhone takes on the case of, 23 year old, Bobby Callahan. He became physically disabled in a car crash he believes was a murder attempt on his life and ultimately killed his best friend. Solving the mystery is a race against time because Callahan believes the person responsible for his injuries is still on the loose and will probably take another swipe at him until he's dead and what he knows will go to the grave with him.
Millhone also works gratis to help her friend and landlord, Henry, who has fallen head over heals and senseless for new lady in the neighborhood.
I thought this a solid mystery with a thrilling conclusion.
