The start of probably my favorite book series ever. Ruby Dixon proves herself a master of world building in a fantasy setting. She beautifully balances the complex new world with her wonderful characters without being overwhelming to read.

Unfortunately my frontal lobe has definitely developed since I last read this book. Still a banger tho, ultimate reading slump cure

4/5 sassy stars

Well that was a really cool read. I loved the bantering that came from the cultural shock between the two main characters, who are from different times/worlds. The FMC is cute and cheeky, and the slow burn was delightful; she was brave and realistic. There were a couple of times when I thought "yeah, I would do that too, actually". I love a strong female character, and cheer them on when they go to war and kick ass (which Faith does do at some point), but it is also refreshing to read about a character that's just as clueless as I would be if I were in her situation (hells forbid). No simping, just trying to figure it out. I also loved the MMC's opening scene and I enjoy far too much the awkwardness of a God expecting to be served by all but meeting his match in a mortal.

Some parts of this story reminded me strongly of the Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa (I guess the whole mortal-meets-God is a trope in itself), but the world building and Aspects part of the story really made it stand out, so to say (although the writing of this book seems to predate the Horsemen? I don't know). The plot was quite simple and is clearly romance-driven (I was not expecting more, to be honest), but it was nicely written and fast-paced.

I'll check Ruby Dixon's other works.

I like that Ruby Dixon writes like she’s in on the joke. Had a few good chuckles in here.

This was the first book other than IPB I read of Ruby Dixon, and the romantasy and world building is very straightforward. Perhaps that’s because it’s isekai.

Boring, repetitive and very long.

4.5 stars - this book was great! Loved the slow burn (proper slow burn too.. none of this flip a switch and suddenly they’re in love stuff), the chemistry between the two MCs, Faith’s snarky attitude, and Aron’s evolution. The world building was fantastic, I fell in love with the side characters, and I cried my eyes out a few times.

Perfect if you liked Laura Thalassa’s Four Horseman series, or even those who liked Shadow in the Ember and Fall of Ruin and Wrath by Jennifer Armentrout.
