So many questions answered and yet more questions have arrived. Esra might just be my new favorite character. Now I have to read all the books again with all this new information received.

Love these books! This was a fun ending to the bridge between series and leading into so much interesting fun tuff from theft of swords. Very enjoyable!
I have been anticipating the release of the third installment of Michael J. Sullivan’s Rise and Fall series since he announced its title, Esrahaddon, a name that anyone who has read the Riyria books (Revelations and Chronicles) knows well, it was everything I hoped it would be and more. Even knowing how the story had to end, the novel was engaging, entertaining, and very moving. This is, in my opinion, Mr. Sullivan’s best work to date.
The novel opens dramatically with Esrahaddon appearing to perform the act of destruction that made him infamous, then goes back twenty years where we learn about his upbringing, adventures, and why he made that fateful decision. Along the way, we are introduced to several interesting characters, visit some intriguing places, and learn about thegoblins Ba Ran.
For a 700+ page book (Mr. Sullivan’s longest to date) this read extremely quick – even the “slower” parts were fully engaging, there wasn’t a single word or scene that felt extraneous. I think it is a testament to Mr. Sullivan’s skill as a storyteller that, even though I knew how the story is going to end, I still found elements of the plot that were surprising and kept me guessing. I especially enjoyed seeing the tie-ins to other works, specifically the Riyria books. There were many aspects/threads that seamlessly fit into the larger narrative like pieces of a puzzle
As is true for Mr. Sullivan’s other works, the character work is outstanding. The main characters are well-developed, complex, and feel genuine which makes me completely invested in their fate – even if I want said fate to have someone thrown off a very tall cliff.
