This was a long-haul read, but it was worth it for the payoff. I do think certain things could have been cut to reduce the length of the book, but it was more about unnecessary extra details/inner monologues than it was about substance. The only major thing I took issue with was the prologue chapter; it gave us a huge spoiler that hung over my head through the entire book rather than acting as a teaser for what's to come. At a certain point, it became pretty obvious what was going to happen which made the rest of the journey to get there take forever.

All that being said, this was still a solid book and a good ending to the Rise and the Fall trilogy.

Wow! An unbelievably good story. There were only a few questions I had from both this series and the Legends series that I was afraid would go unanswered. Boy was I wrong. Michael took his time in this novel to not just tell a compelling story but also dig very deep into Ryria's lore. My favorite fantasy books are ones that give me a new reason to reread the whole series upon finishing each chapter.

I would rank this just below Farilane as I still believe that will forever stand as Michael's best book and definitely the best ending of a fantasy novel.

Some further spoiler thoughts for this series and Legends are below but I can't wait to dig into Revelations and Chronicles for the first time!

<Spoiler> Mileva gave Trilos a way out of Phyre (had the typhons dig a hole through to the edge of Phyre) in exchange for finding Muriel, although she said it was too get revenge on Turin. She didn't realize that Trilos would have to sacrifice his memories of Muriel to escape Phyre. He doesn't remeber her since he stored his memories in the tablets. Brin transferred the writing to her book which Trilos eventually read after talking to both Mileva and Bran about it.

Did mileva kill Bran and Falkirk and Dibben? Because she captured them at one point

I think part of Farilane's necessary death was so she wouldn't report castle Blythium

Alurya's death is what caused Uberlin to turn into Malcolm from grief. Their daughter, Muriel, is who keeps the seasons changing.

What is the Agave. The cave on Elan's side?

Eton is death, Elan is the world

Mileva's diving caused the barrier between Eton and Elan to thin enough that Malcolm could see Trilos'spirit from inside the corpse.

Turin started seeing Trilos' actions after he passed through Borappathin (escaping from Neith) heading up towards Estramnadon.

Chaos infected Alurya who passed it on to Turin who spread it across Elan as Rex Uberlin
