The best fantasy novel that I have read in some time. Sullivan takes no prisoners in this one. It's a really fun adventure.

I’m sad as I had really wanted to enjoy this book as much as Farilane. About halfway through I struggled to finish and though it ended with a bang it all felt a bit flat in comparison. I noticed, perhaps for this first time, that in this book especially Sullivan used a LOT of exposition to fill in the story gaps as simple dialogue between characters.
While I find this feat of bridging his two series quite commendable this book really did feel like an intermediary between the legends series and the Royce and Hadrian parts. Honestly the most engaging portion of the story was the backstory of Turin and Trilos and their feud. But the entire excursions and wandering a of our key character felt almost like filler in his own tale.

One of the better ones from Sullivan, I really enjoyed the characters. I'm not a huge fan of how he wraps up a series, but it wasn't as bad as Age of Empyre which wrapped things up just a bit too neatly. This was ok - I'd take away half a star, but the rest of the book was very enjoyable, so I'll stick with 5 stars.
What a way to wrap things up. For being the longest book of the series, I found this one to be filled to the brim with excitement. I have to say that Esra’s ability to work out the true identity of Venlin was the last puzzle piece that would’ve potentially knocked off a star. Also nice to hear some reminiscing on the “old days” from Mawyndulë. A right bastard, but also manipulated from the beginning to the “end.” I will absolutely be going on to read the original series at this point. Very curious to see what gaps in those books have been bolstered by the other two series. This has quickly become one of my favorite series of all time.

Excellent. I'm continually impressed with the author's pacing and plotting. If you're interested in the Riyria books I recommend reading them in the order they were published, and not leaving so much time between series that you forget characters, as many names appear across series.
