Different

This short story could have been SO much more. Disappointing. It could have been fleshed out into a novella. I have so many questions!

What a weird trip! I enjoyed the premise and setting, loved the mom... I even kind of loved hearing typical teenager responses to having a witchy mom in the 1950s. I did not enjoy the discrediting and demise of the mother, something that felt all too typical for women, even now, who are different, or vibrant, or simply don't give a fuck anymore. Even the ending didn't redeam this slight for me. My partner and I both listened to this on audible, and we're both left feeling gross and disappointed... so we watched an episode of Ugly Americans to wash the depression away.
