New BSC member Dawn is having a hard time fitting in with the long time friend group *a call back to Stacey joining*
Taking on 3 siblings to babysit, Dawn realizes the mother is being extremely neglectful during her divorce with their father and gets caught in between everything
BSC has always tackled tough stuff on growing up, this is a darker one
While I don't agree with the decisions Dawn made the outcome was good and still holds up after all these years

Reasons Dawn pissed me off:
1) She forces Mallory to explain an injury tht happened on her watch that wsnt her fault and cldnt b prevented* forcing the BSC to requestion Mallory
2) when Dawn realized the kids were in a bad situation, it was her responsibility to tell ppl (the BSC, her parents, a teacher, the police!) It wld have prevented the father taking off with a kid and talking with the mother sooner then after weeks of babysitting

I thought the art was great! I think kids who loved Telgemeier's take on the BSC will really enjoy this one. Galligan's art felt very familiar and I really didn't get distracted by the change in artist at all. T & G have their own distinct styles, for sure, but I think kids who have been reading all of Telgemeier's previous stuff will find new interest in Galligan.

Really loving this series. I'm so glad I tried it. :)
This is probably my favorite adaptation to date!
I loved the lessons about the importance of setting boundaries and it was nice to show kids how to handle a challenging conversation. As an adult, I saw Ms. Barrett through a different lens and my goodness, that woman definitely needed an intervention. I like how she was portrayed as flawed, but willing to put in the work to improve.
In addition, I really liked the B-plot about Kristy's insecurities with her upcoming move and Mary Anne's growing friendship with Dawn. This is a very real scenario that can happen to any kid and it's nice to see an example of how to express those feelings in a positive way.
All in all, a great volume!
