I do not know who this book is for...someone who likes to read about politics in a non existing world and that being amost the only content and therefore servicing as the plot?

I early on realised that this was not a romantasy book, which was not a deal breaker for me, but I still have to feel something if there is a love interest introduced and with this there was just nothing not even tension. And it was also the kind of bully romance where the guy is "kicking down"(I do not know how to describe this power balance/bully "romance").

My preference when it comes to any kind of relationship I like the MC to have(found family, tight friendships or literally anything else) also played a part in me not finishing this book(or else I would have rated it 0.75/5 stars to the point I read it) but there also were not enough fantasy aspects(e.g. the cruel fae being boring and not multi-faceted) in the book for a fantasy book except from the "politics".

Genuinely, this is such a masterfully written book in which the characters and reader alike both think they know the next move but they don't. If I could marry a book, this would be the one. Haha 

But in all honesty, this very quickly became my favorite book. I love the use of tropes and the ways they were subverted. I love the characters and the way they challenged each other. I love all of the different mysteries and how you could both see and not see each of the twists. It takes a lot for me to rate a book a 5 star book, but this one effortlessly won that rating.

If I could judge this book solely on the second half I would rate it much higher. I understand that there's a certain amount of needing the character to get to where she needs to be for the last half the book but the first half is slow and full of torture for the main character that is uncomfortable to watch.

Once it gets there though it becomes a great story of a rise to power and corruption of Jude trying to protect other innocence by sacrificing her own.
