I cannot express how much I dislike Tasha Alexander shoving two separate novellas into a single book and calling the whole thing a "Lady Emily Mystery." She's clearly capable of writing a novel-length mystery since the first half of the series are all only focused on Emily's story. The only reasons I continue to read the series are because she writes well and I like Emily and Colin.
This time the two stories are connected by a single sentence at the end of the book. You can literally skip all of the Tansy chapters and not lose anything from the "main" story with Emily.
To be clear, I have no issue with her writing these stories. She does the research and clearly finds something worth writing. I just wish she'd publish them separately and leave Emily and Colin out of it.

This was one of the most engaging installments in the whole Lady Emily series, thanks in no small part to the comedic bits of three precocious children and two great-aunts. And I’m not big on kids, so to say they were good additions to the story really means something

Lady Emily and her family are visiting the Scotland estate of her friend, the Duke of Bainbridge, when her three boys stumble upon a dead body. Of course Emily and Colin must figure out what happened. There is a second story line from the 1600s. Though it was easy to miss if you did not pay attention, the two stories did intertwine. I was happy to see the boys were a part of the story, not just an afterthought. Hope to see more of them in future books. I also enjoyed the Duke’s aunts. Another solid entry in the Lady Emily series.

A Cold Highland Wind is 17th book in the Lady Emily historical mystery series. This is the first Tasha Alexander novel I have read. I enjoyed the double historical timeline as well as the ending tying the two together. I think however my favorite parts were the crocodile. Trust me if you enjoy historical mysteries this is a good one and besides there’s a crocodile to find out about.
