Definitely the weak link in the trilogy. I devoured the first two and loved every minute, but this one fell a little flat. It frankly annoyed me that the book was basically an excuse to delve into the back story of Fermin Romero de Torres, but anything pertaining to his allegedly very interesting life before jail was purposefully excluded.

I did appreciate the additional insight on David Martin, and part of me wants to go back and reread The Angel's Game and see how my impressions change.

I enjoyed venturing back to Barcelona in my imagination and was able to picture bits and pieces of the city from my visit seven years ago. The characters were interesting, but I didn't quite feel as connected to them as I do in other books that I adore. The storyline was dark and a bit gruesome, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Delighted to see that this was again translated by Lucia Graves - she brings a wonderful lightness to the prose.

Another belter.
