This book was addicting. As someone who grew up in a very Christian/Mormon household and very loyal to my faith growing up, Reese's inner thoughts about this new freedom of her adulthood were spot on it was almost triggering PTSD haha. I was getting flashbacks of how I felt a lot of the time. So I felt like I could relate to Reese and feel her frustration.

Fisher was infuriating but you still can't help but fall for him the way Reese does.

That ending had me picking up the second book without hesitation!

"In this life, we don't owe anyone anything. No explanation. Feelings are the most personal part of who we are. You’re not accountable for your feelings any more than you’re accountable for the amount of oxygen you consume. Think for yourself. And don’t ever let anyone tell you how to feel."

"But I don’t believe our thoughts are always in-line with our feelings. And sometimes we think what we believe we’re supposed to think, despite our feelings. When your feelings align with your thoughts, then you’re thinking for your fucking self."

This was very frustrating to read because of the FMCs naivety but I guess that’s the whole point.
I loved the angst and tension.

I actually saw this book recommended by a girl on tik tok and got intrigued so I read it... God, it made me feel old.
I used to love reading immature, generic, formulaic love stories with a bossy man and a young heroine. Now I'm almost 30 and I cringe when I read about barely legal girls trying to get it on. This book was especially cringe worthy because the heroine talked and thought more like a 14 year old rather than her actual 18 years. Also it didn't help that her love interest was a 28 year old grown ass man who consistently chased after a kid. He knew for a fact that she was a virgin, very religious and sheltered her whole life but still he spoke to her so crudely that it made me uncomfortable.
Also I saw no actual story building. They just met and shared virtually no common interests, no interesting conversations, no funny banter or anything substantial and yet they were madly in love in one month. And they professed their love in the most ridiculous ways. I rolled my eyes so hard at the soppiness of it all.
Maybe I'm getting old and cynical but for the life of me I couldn't stand this book. I even read the second one to see if it got any better. Spoiler alert: it didn't. It got even more unrealistic and ridiculous.

Reese & Fisher

“I know they say love is patient, but it’s not. Love is the brightest star in the sky. It doesn’t have an off switch or a timer. It doesn’t wear a watch or look at a calendar. It’s why we’re here. It’s the only true reason for our existence.”

Holy shit, I devoured this book. Seriously, I finished it in less than 24 hours.

I giggled, I gasped, I contemplated the topics at hand… I went through all of the emotions and I can’t wait for book 2 to serve me with even more!

So, the beginning of the book almost had me DNFing the book, but since I was buddy reading it with a few people I pushed on and it didn't disappoint.
As a person who grew up in a slightly religious family (more my dad just quoting parts of the Bible that suit him at the time and being judgmental to others) The beginning had my teeth grinding, with all her pray not to lust every two minutes. Luckly, she opened her mind up a little and started living for herself and not what others told her was right. Fisher had me mad also with that push and pull of how he treated her, like it was a game to him. Then, he opened up about his past and it explained some of why he was acting the way he was. Umm the ending was pretty good, am glad she still kept her v-card, just because I think she shouldn't make decisions in a haze of lust. Step away, live a little and get more prospective about life before jumping in bed with the first man you ever seen without a shirt. Might continue with the series, others in the buddy read did, and they liked the second, but also said probably not rush to read it.

Is the heroine naive and shelter and desperately trying to be an adult? Yes. And I saw way too much of my formerly religious self in her…it was painful and also healing.
