I love the lyricallity of his writing. It was nice to catch up with Murtagh and all his complicated feelings. I really like where the story picked up in the timeline and the progression. Honestly I just really enjoy the characters and the world building so much. There's something really settled about it. It's covered in dust but not dirty. Not sticky feeling like a lot of the romantasy books out there right now. Not that there is anything wrong with them, lord knows I read a ton of them. But there's just something like, the first deep breath of loam, about this book that I really love. He always flirts with the romance aspect and while I would love to see a little more of that come forward, it makes sense that it doesn't. He has so many complicated feelings about who he is and what he deserves. Compacted by Thorns own feelings and guilt. I like a good yearn for him. He wants so badly to deserve the love she wants to give him. It's just very tender and precious and I love it the way it is but I also selfishly want more. It's just great writing.

Fantasy with a lot of truth about reality

I think this is my favorite of the Inheritance Eragon books. Murtagh is a character that is powerful, fierce, flawed, determined, heroic, and redeemable. I also think he's written secular and driven to do the right thing. He's a character with a hero complex who thinks the world he is in hates him yet he wants to protect & save it. It isn't said but I think it's love that drives him. He also has a determination to maintain his sense of self. I also feel like it's about toxic abusive narcissists trying to use religion to rule and the evil that is that kind of control. This story is a fiction reflecting the very human evil that is a cult like worship of anyone or anything. One thing every human needs ends up the Name of the weapon Murtagh yields. You will have to read the book to find out what that is. I really enjoyed this and I kind of want more.

Murtagh is a fantastic book on its own. It does a spectacular job of bringing the world back to life. In the larger Inheritance universe, Murtagh is perhaps my second-most favourite book, hence 4.75. Eldest is still the best. XD

I give Murtagh a 3.75/5. I really like the  Murtagh and thorn, and there were moments that truly stood out to me, like what happens with his sword and a particular quote that really hit me. I also enjoyed the part with Uvek, and I’d love to know more about their relationship in the future.

What didn’t convince me was that the story feels repetitive at times, especially after the halfway point. Also, the villain wasn’t very memorable I even forgot her name though I did like how her story ends in the book. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I would have preferred a slightly more dynamic story.
