May is a short story month. I just have to squeeze one (or maybe two) short story collection this month and this one is just perfect.
The first line in the first story had me laughing and hooked me in! There are twelve short story collections and each one depicts the (almost all) kinds of men in Nigeria. Not all stories are from voices of women who have been wronged by Lagos men, there are men too but they are still seen as the same. In each story, men are presented as unreliable, selfish, afraid of commitment, egoistic and can use women as they please. While the title itself suggest something about men in Lagos, I think the issues presented here are universal, something we can all relate and probably experience in one point in our lives.
As with short story collections, I have few favorites - Cuck -Up, Ode-pus Complex, Beard Gang and I Knew You. But I think all of them are interesting to read, lots of funny, laugh-out-loud moments and some have too graphic sex scenes which I found some unnecessary in my opinion, lol. This is quick read and would recommend if you need a break from heavy reading. The author is releasing her debut novel in July and looking forward to reading it!

Nearly All The Men in Lagos Are Mad is a short story collection by Damilare Kuku. While many of the stories are from the POV of women wronged by a man, there are a few stories told through a man's POV. I connected with some short stories, and not others; which I find is pretty common in novels like these. I did have a lot of laugh out loud moments; at times because of the characters and situation, but also at times because of the sheer ridiculousness these people put themselves in. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

I loved this book! A great selection of 12 short stories, a mixture of funny, sad, and concerning stories. They all felt so real. Are all men truly this mad?
I enjoyed this diverse anthology of short stories about Lagos men. The stories detailed women's unfortunate experiences with a spectrum of Lagos male characters, including scammers, liars, cheaters, rapists and Pastors who live double lives. The retelling of Lagos women's misadventures with these unfortunate characters was hilarious. The most hopeful story "Independence Day" which deals with rape was heart-wrenching but had the most happy ending.
Definitely entertaining and a lot more raunchy than I expected, but the plot development and pacing was just off. And the stories just… stop.
