This was perfect!! I loved Rosie and Lucas so much. I went into this with low expectations and ended up loving this book to pieces. Lucas is such a top tier cinnamon roll character and Rosie was so lovable. Lucas was so lovable and perfect, I cannot stress that enough. Also angel is the top tier term of endearment lol. Although I loved Rosie I will say she did fall a bit flat as an individual at times but it really didn't bother me. Lucas being a damaged hero was kind of surprising tbh and the way he thought of himself as unworthy kinda threw me off considering how kind he is. I loved seeing Lina and Aaron again omg my heart lol. Overall I enjoyed reading this very much and will reread in the future.

The American Roommate Experiment 🛋 Review

“Lina me va a cortar las pelotas” - Elena Armas 😂

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars

Thank you @tandem @bib @simon for sending me this copy of The American Roommate Experiement as part of a readalong. ☺️

I was SO excited to get my hands on this! And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I’ve been in a slump for quite some time, but this had me invested pretty early on. 💕

I’m a big fan of the forced proximity trope and the best friend banter throughout was top tier. It gave me The Flatshare flashbacks, which is the book that got me into rom com reading 2 years ago. Sure the plot was predictable but if you’re after a cozy, light and fun read - this is perfect. 👌🏻

Rosie was warm and kind and just lovely. Nothing we haven’t seen in a romance before but I wanted a happy ending for her. Lucas STOLE the show. He was perfect, definitely too perfect. I couldn’t WAIT for their dates and sofa scenes, I was like a moth to a flame. 🔥

The food scenes were great, the Spanish family were TOP TIER, I wanted even more Lina and we got the dog too! What’s not to love? I like that they both had back stories though these could’ve been more fleshed out. I loved how they both became what the other needed in this book. 🥰

I’m not sure what happened to the pacing by the end of this book. The airport moment didn’t play out how I expected, it didn’t feel very them. And whilst the ending was great, I needed a bit more. I wanted to see what happened NYE 👀 I almost wanted Ro to give a bit of push back too! For a 400+ page book, it all came to an abrupt stop. 🙈

After totally sleeping on The Spanish Love Deception for a while, I knew I wasn't going to make that mistake with Elena Armas's sophomore release. I adored Armas's first book, so the fact that The American Roommate Experiment totally blew my already high expectations out of the water was quite the enjoyable surprise!

This book followed Rosie Graham and Lucas Martin--Lina Martin's best friend and cousin, respectively--as they share Lina's studio apartment while she's out of town and go on experimental dates to inspire Rosie as she attempts to write her next romance novel.

I quite literally was hooked from page one. With that adorable meet-cute, I knew instantly that I was going to love both Lucas and Rosie. Lucas is the sweetest, kindest, most protective cinnamon roll I ever did read, and I just adored how he treated Rosie. And Rosie--my literal soul sister--I related to her so much. As a writer myself, it wasn't difficult to put myself in her shoes and want to root for her.

I thought the emotional journeys and subplots of both characters were incredibly well done as well. It provided some really tender moments that squeezed at my heart in the best way. And I loved being able to read from both Rosie's and Lucas's perspectives throughout it all too. I felt like I could truly understand where they both were coming from.

Overall, this book checked all my boxes for romance novels. It had relatable characters with great chemistry, tender and emotional moments, and a great, fun premise and trope. Easily one of my favorite romance reads of the year!

The American Roommate Experiment is the follow-up to The Spanish Love Deception, and follows Rosie Graham (who is the best friend of Lina the first books heroine), and Lucas Martin Lina’s cousin. After a unfortunate mishap involving her apartments ceiling, Rosie moves into Lina’s apartment while her own is getting repaired. Meanwhile, Lucas is preparing to move into said apartment while he’s visiting New York City from Spain while Lina is on her honeymoon. Rosie doesn’t know that however leading to a hilarious first meeting. They then agree to share the apartment. As they become friends Rosie tell Lucas about her secret, she’s a romance writer. But she’s been struggling with writers block on her sequel to her unexpectedly hit first novel. She’s on deadline and is having a hard time getting started.  Lucas then suggests that they go on a series of experimental dates to help her find her romantic muse again. What follows is a funny, swoon worthy and at times emotional story that had me tearing up quite a few times.

Elena Armas has written another winner! The Spanish Love Deception was one of my favorite romances the year it came out, and this one is no exception. Rosie is a loving and loyal person who at times struggles to see her self-worth in regards to her romantic relationships. And Lucas is someone who after having sustained an injury surfing is struggling to reconcile who he is now after that accident with who he was before it. Also, how adorable was Lucas’s dog, Taco?!?!?   I will read every book that Elena writes!

This book was so adorable!!! All the dates just made my heart melt. I love the vulnerability that was show between both characters and how they trusted eachother enough early in there friendship to be able to confide in eachother, it made all the little moments even better.

Now if we are being honest Aaron Blackford does still win over Lucas for me. But I loved Lucas character nonetheless, I really liked how I got to see the raw side of a man In a rom com, instead of the typical “boy saves girl” I felt both characters saved eachother. I loved how Lucas spoke, I wish I could hire him as my therapist. Third act break up Lucas was not it for me tho I’m so annoyed at what he did. OH AND THE SMUT *chefs kiss*

I loved the writing in this book and will literally devour any book Elena ever writes, I would of liked to of seen Elena write something other than fake dating, although there were little tropes that were different to the ones in TSD, fake dating were the main tropes in both books, I would like to see Elena write a book with different tropes. Despite this Elena did do an excellent job at making each book each characters book and I can easily distinguish each book from the other they don’t blend in my head. Aaron and Lina did appear in this book but didn’t overtake the book which I liked. One thing I did notice is that there was a lot of “tik tok” associated stuff such as tropes and certain scenes.
For examples vampires diaries was mentioned which is very big on tik tok and a lot of the popular tropes were in this book, friends to lovers, forced proximity, kind of one bed, fake dating.
I know TSD was big on tik tok so maybe that’s why there was this type of content in this book. But it goes with my I would to love see Elena write outside of her comfort zone point.

I loved this book and would recommend this duology to literally anyone. I can not wait to read future Elena Armas books!!!
