BUT WHYYYYYY THAT ENDING OMG

I made the mistake of reading reviews before I started this book, so I knew the major plot event before I started it. That particular event doesn't take place until the last 2 or 3 paragraphs, but I was distracted the entire book waiting for it to happen. And even though I read the author's explanation for the ending, I still found it cruel and unnecessary, especially given there's no explanation of the aftermath.

WHAT WAS THAT

Here is another one I read awhile ago that I am now bringing to Goodreads.

Another one that I removed from the thumbs-down shelf.

This is the end of the Grant County series.

So, if you haven't read #1-5, it is recommended that you do so.

The story finds us with Detective Lena Adams in a jail cell suspected of murdering a woman. Chief Jeffrey Tolliver has gotten the call that she has been arrested. Jeffrey's wife, Medical Examiner Sara Linton, has little patience for Lena. (You see why you need book 1-5?)

While Sara is fighting her own battles at home, she has little patience for her husband having to fight for his detective.

So as Jeffrey and Sara try to save Lena, we can only expect a climax and a final, unforgettable twist to keep us readers engaged!

I will say this, Slaughter is a dark and twisty soul writer - she is also gritty.

She will take her readers to the darkest places. I wasn't sure I ever wanted to go there, and sometimes I was reminding myself, "don't read this book at night."

To be honest, I don't read her books any longer - for this very reason. She is too dark for me.

But...

This may be your thing...

And if it is...

Welcome to this series.

But,

Start at the beginning, and read them in order.

Not much to say besides my heart is actually shattered by the ending of this book and that the series is over.

Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The story arch of the Jeffrey-Sara-Lena triangle touches the ground in a downward slope, but there's room for a seventh novel.

It honestly was gut wrenching ! I loved it. I don’t want this series to end. I like it better than the will Trent series. Which isn’t really being fair. I started this series bc I was told i should before the Will Trent. But this ending just gutted me. Like bamm!

It honestly left room for another. But it’s been years since she did this series. But I can be hopefully.
