This book destroyed me. Beyond Reach is everything I love about Karin Slaughter’s writing- dark, intense, emotionally raw- but that ending left me absolutely shattered.
The mystery itself was gripping, with all the twists, tension, and brutal storytelling slaughter is known for. But what really made this book hit so hard was the character development, especially Lena. Her journey in this series has been so complex and heartbreaking, and this book just took everything to another level.
And then… that ending. I don’t think I’ve ever been this emotionally wrecked by a book. It was bold, painful, and completely unforgettable. Slaughter proves once again that she’s a master of crime fiction- not just for the thrilling plots, but for the way she makes you feel every bit of it.
If you’ve made it this far in the Grant County series, prepare yourself. This one hurts.

Karin Slaughter is one of my top favorite authors and I loved this series sooo much. Unfortunately I am not in love with the final book Beyond Reach. I felt like it was longer than it needed to be and I found myself getting lost along the way. The ending seemed so rushed and unnecessary. I’m sad this is how it ended. I’m excited to read the Will Trent Series to continue on with these characters. This book was my least favorite in the series.
How dare she?! I am literally saying these words aloud (directed solely at my girl Karen Slaughter) upon finishing the final chapter - and I am currently on an airplane writing this and I don’t care who hears me! I am so shaken! How dare she rip my heart out and stomp on it and leave me hanging out to dry like this. I am simply at a loss for words. After finishing this series I am screaming, crying, throwing up. I want more. I need time to process as I cannot even believe what I just read and I cannot believe it’s over. I’ve never experienced such visceral reactions to a series as I did with Grant County - the writing is just that good! Slaughter is truly a one of a kind thriller novelist and I am forever grateful that her work was recommended to me (by my girls Britt & Michelle - seriously, thank you!!). This series and these characters hold a special place in my heart now & always.

So depressed to be done with this book. I didn’t realize it was a series meant to be read in order so I’ll have to read books 1-4 but absolutely well done. On the edge of my seat until the very last page.
