this was a very unique time travel story! aimee was a likable and relatable mc, and i really enjoyed seeing her grow and learn to embrace her situation. her relationship with her parents was complex and well-written, and her interactions with her best friend felt natural. i found that i wasn’t super invested in the romance—the banter and chemistry didn’t feel like anything new, and it was pretty insta-lovey. overall though, this was definitely one of the most interesting YA books i’ve read this year!

The main character's approach to her relationship with her illness rings true to the experience of most teens living with chronic illness. I also found her need to tell everyone she's fine because trying to explain the neverending exhaustion of invisible pain is too difficult an important sticking point, and I'm glad the author left us with some hope in the end. The third act twist was a doozy I did not see coming and it made me gasp out loud.
