Did feel like one big prologue to the rest of the series, so I might have to come back and adjust my rating based on how the rest of the series goes. That said, this was a strong start, I feel like the premise hooked me right away, and the writing style was interesting (it can come off as long winded but I think it suited where I think Hadrian’s character and personality is going).
Hadrian does come off as a bit immature and flat, but I understand that this is only the start of his story and maybe that’s the point. Constant allusions throughout the book to the person he becomes and the great feats he performs made me expect more from him, but there’s not a lot of payoff in this book. May have to come back and readdress this point as I progress through the rest of the series.

I'm not sure if this book doesn't deserve 4 stars, but considering that it's a prologue to the rest of the series— which apparently is pretty good—I might have to change the rating someday.
Also, I have a complicated relationship with sci-fi, I'm still trying to get to like it more, and I hope this series will deliver on this front.
