I can't say that this is my favorite Agatha Christie book but this is definitely one of my favorites. I didn't see the end coming and I loved the twists and turns it took as well as the "true crime" element that was added to the story.
Another great mystery. I didn’t expect the twist!
I chose this book out of the hundreds of Agatha Christie audiobooks available to me with my Scribd subscription. It was basically a random choice when I was looking for something to listen to while I dozed off resting/napping in bed. Post-exam. And it's much easier to lie in bed and rest when I have a cozy English village to escape into.
I listened to about half all at once before it got a bit borderline too scary for me to listen to before bedtime. There was a clue about a newspaper clipping (that's not a spoiler!) which I found a little unsettling. So I took a break and finished it later, which helped. I wasn't scared anymore and found the plot to be intriguing and cleverly crafted, as is usual with the Queen of Mystery, Ms. Christie.
I find Hercule Poirot to be an amusing protagonist. I really enjoyed the satirical descriptions of some terrible cooking in this book. One such gem was when Poirot was served "watery potatoes and what [the host] optimistically hoped would be pancakes." Haha such a prim and proper way to describe just terrible pancakes!

Not her best, but it's still better than a lot of others.
Queen.
Queen.
I'm extremely happy this book was my introduction to Agatha Christie (I KNOW, RIGHT?!). I found Hercule Poirot as pleasantly eccentric as I've heard him to be and for having been written in 1952, "Mrs. McGinty's Dead" doesn't feel too dated. A properly entertaining whodunnit if you ask me.
As soon as I read this - bearing in mind this is my first Dame Agatha Christie novel - within the first few sentences I knew I would enjoy this.
⚠️Triggers: violent descriptions, blood
A page turner, completely hooked and loving Poirot's charismatic charm, wit and overall proud demeanour and his clever tactics to solve this murder. Also, how he has an appreciation of good food which I can relate to!
Agatha Christie writes in a very chatty and informal manner in places which made it very easy to digest. I also liked how there were elements of humour throughout.
With a book of this nature you have to remain alert whilst reading and I have to admit I didn't all the way through and the murder was a surprise and seemed very left field. Reading another Agatha Christie in future I would make sure I was closely following the narrative throughout so as not to miss any important finer details as to who the killer is next time.
Very enjoyable, and the first of many more to come. A glowing ⭐⭐⭐⭐ review.
