"I wish you didn’t have to feel like you can’t make mistakes. I wish people weren’t so caught up in maintaining their status quo that they don’t see how things could be so much better. How you could be so much better than anything they’ve ever seen."
I loved this book. I laughed, cried, and cried some more. One of my favorite stories I've read this year. I could relate to Grace in so many ways, which is why this book was such a breath of fresh air for me. 10/10, will read again. Thank you, Morgan Rogers for this perfection.

An absolutely stunning book. This isn’t some fluff romance (but of course there is a bit of love in it!) but speaks of privilege, racism, mental health, and mostly about finding yourself. The you that’s inside. Not the you that everyone expects you to be. Absolutely blissful and powerful. I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time.
Highlighted passages:
“The stars glimmer above her. They gleam under the gaze of people like Grace, searching for meaning in their formations. They are doing their best for all the people that stare up at the dark and do not know that they, too, shine brilliantly.”
“She thinks, I’m okay, I’m okay, I’m okay, like a mantra. She has to be okay, because there is no other option. She is okay because she must be…”

A stunning book that navigates the emotional and psychic struggles of waking up to realize that the life you thought you wanted may not actually be the life you need. A highly resonant story about the growing pains of navigating a life transition (during a Saturn return) and finding love in the process. Loved the queer love story, loved the exploration of blood and chosen family, appreciated the plot complexities of what it is to be a Black woman in spaces that are exclusive and hostile, and the meeting of so many worlds inside the characters. I listened on audio and the narrator did a beautiful job.
How is it possible to write SOOOOOO many over-the-top asides and descriptions and have….no…..plot?
So much angst, the characters seemed immature, and none of the relationships seemed based on anything that was believable.
This book was entirely different from what I expected from the description. But all the characters feel real and true and it's full of depth and complexity.
Recommend but be aware it deals with a lot of mental health issues.
