A poignant autobiography of Tara Westover’s life, from childhood to getting her PhD. This one is really inspiring and captivating. She catches a lot of nuance of living with complex childhood trauma and how difficult it can be to unbox.

This was a really impactful memoir. I don't know why I had a hard time getting started on reading this, I read 13 pages Sunday, then nothing on Monday or Tuesday. But once I got really started on Wednesday, I couldn't put it down! I finished most of it all on Wednesday, then only had 28 pages left to go today (Thursday). Definitely feel more educated (no pun intended) after reading this and I'd definitely recommend it to others. I just marked it as 4.75 stars instead of a full 5 stars because there had to have been some reason why I struggled with the beginning, even if I'm not really sure what that reason why.

I have love and admiration for Tara. She shares her truth with honesty and grace. Her resilience, growth, and spirit of forgiveness are very inspiring.

I expected this book to be about the importance of education - I didn't expect it to be such an insightful look at dysfunctional families and the way they fracture.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who grew up in a household with a severely mentally ill parent or strict religious upbringing.

Educated is a breathtaking memoir that left me both heartbroken and deeply inspired. Tara Westover's journey from a survivalist, isolated childhood in rural Idaho to earning a PhD from Cambridge is nothing short of extraordinary. Her writing is honest, raw, and poetic—capturing the complexity of family, identity, and the transformative power of education. This book challenged my perspective on resilience and self-discovery. It’s a story that lingers long after the final page. I firmly believe anyone, regardless of their walk of life, can learn from Westover’s experiences as she teaches us how our identities are not defined by those who came before us, and change is possible with fight and determination.

Extremely well written. Maybe the most infuriating, maddening, and deeply saddening family situation to read about ever - credit to the author for not sugar coating the complexities and inconsistencies of her story/family or the current state of her relationship with them in the interest of creating a happier or more hopeful story. Expected the book to be a story of getting an education against all odds but this is really a story about family and trauma.
